This Woman Bravely Wrote About Being Raped by Her Boss
He followed her home to make sure she would "get home safe
Alisson Wood wrote a recent piece for the New York Times about being raped by her boss at work while she was in college and having him walk her to her car, so she would "get home safe."
Wood, who was working as a waitress at the time, says her manager asked the staff to stay late at work after he claimed one of them had stolen a $50 gift card and needed to question them. Wood said that after everyone else had left, he spent over an hour interrogating her and telling her that if she was lying, he could have her put in jail and that the police would believe whatever he told them. Wood says her lawyer would later question if there even was a stolen gift card or if he'd just made that up to get her alone.
After the interrogation, he told her she had "really nice breasts" and began to rape her. Afterward, he told her to get up and walked her to her car and also followed her home, where he fortunately did not follow her inside.
Wood says her boss told people that what happened was consensual and unfortunately the prosecutor stopped pursuing the case because it was her word against his.
Her story is a horrifying reminder of the violence that can happen when you least expect it and of the continuously frustrating reality that women are still not believed when they report incidents of violence
